Kyoto University launched the Environment, Livelihood, and Sanitation Nexus (ELSaN) project with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Tiyeni partnered with Kyoto University through ELSaN to implement the project “Improvement of Income in Agricultural Production by Using Underutilized Resources for Smallholders in Mzimba District”. As part of this project, Tiyeni’s Country Director, Isaac Monjo Chavula, led farmer representatives from Malawi on a learning visit to Japan in 2023. Famers learned about innovative forms of organic manure making as well as water and waste recycling methods that can be adapted for use in Malawi.
During this partnership, Master’s students from Kyoto University have also visited Malawi. Students obtained first-hand experience and information from Tiyeni and the Lunyangwa Agriculture Research Station on their studies, which focused on Deep Bed Farming’s conservational and regenerative impacts. |
