Malawi’s Department of Agricultural Research (& Technical) Services (DARS/DARTS) is a technical department of the Ministry of Agriculture that conducts demand-driven market- and client-oriented agricultural research. Tiyeni began working with DARS in 2017 when our Country Director Isaac Monjo Chavula approached the Department’s director, Dr Wilkson Makumba, about evaluating Deep Bed Farming against commonly-promoted farming methods in Malawi. This work led to Deep Bed Farming’s official adoption by the Malawian Ministry of Agriculture in 2021. Since then, Tiyeni have been working tirelessly with DARS and the rest of Malawi’s Ministry of Agriculture to embed Deep Bed Farming in agriculture practice throughout the country.
