Collaborative working
Loughborough University’s Wolfson School of Mechanical Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering is one of the biggest engineering schools of its kind in the UK, with an extensive research portfolio. Their Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST) research centre boasts a cohort of approximately 60 academics, researchers, and PhD students working with a wide range of laboratory facilities for prototype manufacture and testing. Tiyeni has collaborated with Loughborough University engineers alongside members from the Consortium for Battery Innovation to develop Aftrak. This low-cost, solar-powered tractor is designed to empower smallholder farmers through Deep Bed Farming, and won First Place in the Milken-Motsepe Institute’s 2024 Prize in Green Energy.
